My Star competition reached fever pitch on Friday with male contestants proving their musical prowess against their female counterparts who failed to live to expectations.
The competition reached the summit Friday with the remaining ten contestants testing their musical worth to perform their own compositions, referred to as the task song, but none of the female contenders, including the talented Elizabeth would come even close to Kennedy, Kalvin and Norman who gave the audience their money’s worth.
Unlike the rest of her female folks in the competition, Elizabeth managed to win the hearts of Master Dee and the guest to the show, Tumie Ramsden, but stumbled to convince another judge, DJ Sydney, who was unequivocal in dismissing her task song as “not worth it”.
As to the remarkable performance of the trio, the no nonsense DJ Sydney wholeheartedly argued Kennedy’s “was the best performance he has ever seen,” while the visiting Ramsden described him as “born for the stage”.
A multi-faceted minnow, Kennedy started the show with a gospel song, which is a rare phenomenon in the show, and worked up the audience and judges alike as he gave calculated attention and nurture into the task song to become the first contestant during the night to steal the hearts of the judges in the category.
Coming after him was Kalvin, who also performed the task song exceptionally well to spark the interest of the judges with DJ Sidney happily commenting: “For the second time in five years would two contenders sing so good in just one night.”
“That was marvelous,” he added, referring to the performance of Kalvin and Kennedy, who consecutively stunned the audience with their easy flow masterpieces.
Although he would not get a vote from DJ Sidney, another of the kind was Norman who mesmerized Master Dee and Ramsden with his performance, especially the task song which they maintained were encouraging and worthwhile pieces.
The only three males remaining in the show, Kennedy, Kalvin and Norman’s performances are thus far exciting with most spectators anticipating a clinch of the most sought after prize from one of them and, in particular Kennedy, whose appearance on stage ignited much sways and excitement from the audience.
The brain child of Master Dee and DJ Sidney, My Star competition has been experiencing tremendous growth with this year’s countdown winner expected to grab a staggering P100 000 – a far cry from the previous wins, which have been offering paltry amounts.
Kicked from the top ten, the disappointing Kaelo went away with a considerable amount of P2, 000 and a Samsung cellphone – courtesy of Mascom Wireless, the main sponsor of the event.
Another exciting show is envisaged next Friday as men and women separate themselves from the feeble to become thousands pula richer and prospective career singers.
The grand finale is scheduled 8th July.
