NDP 10 Mid-Term Review in full swing

The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning says it has started reviewing NDP 10.
In its first quarter economic bulletin the ministry says after three and a half years of implementing the tenth National Development Plan (NDP 10), government has constituted its review commonly known as the Mid-Term Review (MTR) of NDP 10.

The review is aimed at reflecting on achievements, constraints and challenges encountered during the implementation of the current Plan during the first half of the Plan with a view to where necessary change priorities and strategies to drive the Plan going forward.

“The review started in March 2012 with the formation of sector based Thematic Working Groups (TWGs). TWGs are high level strategic groups comprising of Ministers, and membership from the public sector, private sector, civil organisations, think tanks and development partners,” the bulletin says.

For the NDP 10 MTR, the TWGs will determine national priorities for cabinet consideration and approval during planning and budgeting period, align sectoral strategies, policies and programmes to the national priorities, carry out monitoring and evaluation for achievement of high level results and determine proposals for more cost effective use of financial and human resources through synergy and coordination of planning and budgeting processes for driving development agenda of Botswana.

The government says the various TWGs have already started meeting to discuss and identify national priorities which are necessary to guide the mid -term review process. Such information is also necessary in fulfilling other key milestones of the review processes that include a Key Policy Paper and a Macroeconomic Framework, both of which are critical in setting the foundation for the expenditure portfolio and direction for the remainder of the Plan period.
