Investigations surrounding the death of John Kalafatis will be completed by the end of this month.
Deputy Police Commissioner of Botswana Police Service, Kenny Kapinga, told the Sunday Standard that by the end of this month police investigations surrounding the death of Kalafatis will have been completed.
Kapinga said that after investigations are completed, the docket will then be handed over to the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
Responding to a question concerning the identity of the alleged suspects, the Deputy Commissioner stated, “It is too early to reveal the identities of the alleged suspects.”
However, Sunday Standard has been informed that about five members of the Military Intelligence, who are suspected to have shot dead Kalafatis, have already been questioned by the investigating officer stationed at the Gaborone Central Police Station where the case was reported.
It is understood that the alleged suspects are stationed at Glean Valley Barracks in Gaborone and the heads of the operation that night were a Sergeant and a Lance Corporal.
It is further understood that the suspects told the investigator that they had been rest assured not to fear anything because the matter will be dealt with and that they will be cleared.
Kalafatis was gunned down a couple of weeks ago near his home in Extension 12 in Gaborone.
