In an era where people co exist with next to nothing to say to each other but multitudes to say to the world, also known as the 21st century, many young and aspiring writers have countless platforms to showcase their talent as writers online through social media.
One33 year old Motswana lady Briggita Zwane will in December move from writing daily inserts on Facebook and poetry on her blog to a more prestigious paperback route as she will be launching a traditional Hardcopy book for Batswana readers titled, ‘The Shrink.’ This book is based on a young wounded girl, Tebogo, fighting her own demons comes back home to Botswana and as part of her job she is expected to help adolescents who are equally wounded.
Though she has been writing and publishing online for a few years now Zwani explains that this particular project took her 3 years to complete and will be her first book. Clearly she is not one to rest on her laurels as she is already working on her second paperback. Zwani explains that as her day job, she operates her own Public Relations company which specializes in transforming writers into seasoned authors. Zwani further states that,
“Our target is the youth in Botswana who love to write. We mentor for free and we give reviews on manuscripts for free.” Zwani’s inspiration is embedded in her efforts to relieve her stress and in her word, “I needed a channel to release my stress and the blank page listened.”
Zwani is currently targeting 300 pre-orders from readers, through these orders Zwani expects to generate enough income to print her work into the book she wishes to have on shelves all over the country.
She further states that the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture usually calls for writers to pitch their stories and offer them grants, there has been no word from them this year so she has invested all her faith in her readers to make the 300 pre orders.
