Two eighteen-year-olds were this Friday brought before the Urban Customary Court President, Kgosi Dikwalo Monametsi, charged with stealing from person cash amounting to P1900. They both pleaded guilty to the charges.
The two, Thabang Motshegwa, from Mandilo Ward in Semolale, and Tshepiso Tshotlego, from Ikageleng Ward in Otse, both unemployed, colluded and stole P1900 from Tatlhego Gaokgethelwe on December 6, 2006.
They bought a bed and a stove for themselves and their partner, Kgakgamatso Khudu, 24, from Nong Ward in Mmankgodi. Khudu, also unemployed, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
State Prosecutor from Central Police Station, Constable Thatayaone Mabhangu, told the court that the three were arrested a day after they stole the cash and only P730 was recovered from the three.
Mabhangu told the court that Gaokgethelwe was on her way to the shops when the three grabbed her bag and took her money.
Mabhangu told the court that after Gaokgethelwe reported to the Borakanelo police, the police followed the suspects to White City where they arrested the third accomplice, Khudu, who told the police that he was given P200 by his friends but did not know if they had stolen the money.
Monametsi ordered the police to lock up all the three until their previous convictions could be verified. He told the court that the three are famous in his court and said there is no way they could be first offenders.
The case continues next week Monday.
