Botswana has climbed three places in the latest global freedom rankings following the opposition’s recent electoral success, according to the 2025 Freedom in the World report by Freedom House.
The country’s overall freedom score increased from 72 to 75 out of 100, reinforcing its status as a “Free” nation. The improved ranking reflects significant gains in both political rights and civil liberties, with political rights rising from 31 to 40 and civil liberties from 44 to 60, the report shows.
