Police probe Molepolole accident

Molepolole Police are investigating the cause of a road accident in which six people died on the spot last week after the mini bus they were travelling in overturned along Molepolole-Lephepe Road.

The Station Commander of Molopolole Police Station, Superintendent Andrew Bosilong, six out of the 17 passengers died instantly after the driver lost control of the mini bus, which overturned and smashed into nearby trees. Some of the dead passengers, whose ages range from 26 to 30, were thrown from the bus when it lost control, while others were trapped inside. Passengers who survived the accident had serious injuries and are still hospitalised at Marina Hospital.

The victims of the accident are members of the Apostolic Faith Mission Church, who were on a church trip from Shoshong to Kanye Village.

According to Bosilong, this is a first shocking accident along the road which has very low traffic.
“The terrible accident came as a surprise to us because the two-way road is not susceptible to such incidents,” he said.

The Superintended confirmed that police investigations on the accident will be completed by next week.

If found guilty, the bus driver, who is in police custody, will be charged. Police have already established that the 16-seater combi was overloaded by one person.
