Populism as a response to undemocratic democracy

Today, regimes claiming to be democratic come in for vigorous criticism almost everywhere’. A broader downward shift in the entire spectrum of regimes is purported to be the erosion or malfunctioning of democracy in liberal democracy. In the views of Roberto Foa and Yascha Mounk, some liberal democracies are showing increasing signs of illiberalism, de-institutionalization. Considering serious doubts that have arisen about the future of liberal democracy, it is crucial to appreciate this democracy’s demise for our diagnoses and enlightenment.
