Botswana’s proposed increase in the minimum wage to P4,000 a month is expected to have significant ramifications, particularly for the private sector where many businesses operate on tighter margins than their public counterparts, economists have warned.
According Econsult, “The proposed increase in the minimum wage would not mainly impact government, as wages in the public sector are already well above those in the private sector for less-skilled workers and relatively few public sector workers (an estimated 15-20% of the total) earn less than P4,000 a month.”
