Botswana Badminton Association (BBA) is making huge strides in the development of technical personnel as it is in the field of play.
As a testimony to such, the BBA has had two of its personnel selected as Badminton World Federation (BWF) certified judges.
The latest appointment is that of Emmanuel Saakane who was recently appointed BWF Certificated Line Judge for the period 2019 ÔÇô 2022, inclusive with the possibility to continue for subsequent terms, provided he continues to fulfill all criteria and is nominated for renewal.
For him to be appointed a Line Judge, the BWF took into account his technical experience and certification, as well as having observed worldwide balance and gender equity.
In his appointment letter, it has been made clear that the total number of BWF Certificated Line Judges is kept minimal so as to provide as much as possible a reasonable number of invitations for duties over the term.
Commenting on the appointment of Saakane, BBA Public Relations Officer (PRO) Barulaganye Ncube described it as ‘a stepping stone for the official and the association as well.’
“This means a lot to Saakane, as he will motivate others to follow in his footsteps. As an individual, for him it is a great achievement to be able to reflect on your journey and being proud of the way you have immensely contributed to badminton in the country, region and internationally,” he said.
“It is also by extension recognition for the BBA and its technical committee for their hard work and perseverance since Badminton World Federation laws keep on changing. Saakane will gather all necessary information for the country and pass it on to his fellow members,” he added.
Ncube said the elevation of Saakane to a BWF certified line judge will open doors for him to officiate at the biggest stages in badminton.
“This simply means Saakane is viable to be invited to any international tournaments such as World Championships and Olympics,” Ncube added.
He further highlighted that this is the second time Botswana gets such recognition and honor.
“Emmanuel Kgaboetsile has once benefited, this means Saakane is the second BWF Certificated Line Judge from our country,” he said.
Ncube highlighted that Saakane has been part of the Technical officials in Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires that had been tasked with piloting relay teams.
