It was supposed to be the crowning night of league champions Township Rollers, but on the night, it was the boys from Jwaneng Galaxy who stole the show.
Led by their coach Miguel da Costa and talismanic winger Thero Setsile, Galaxy, as predicted, won all but one of the awards on offer in what was a drab affair of what was supposed to be the night of the stars.
The clean sweep by Galaxy at the awards may only go a long way to harden their feelings that they were probably hard done by the powers that be and could have as well taken the crown from Rollers had things been done the right way according to them.
The star of the night was however none other than Setsile, who took home all the awards he was voted for on the day.
The winger, who is now en-route to ply his trade in the South African first division league with TS Galaxy won the Top Goals Scorer of the Season, the Best Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season award.
It was the second sweep of personal accolades for the 23 year old Setsile, who earlier last month cleaned all in the Mascom Top 8 awards.
In the Goalkeeper of the Season award, it was Setsile’s teammate Ezekiel Morake who scooped the award ahead of BDF XI’s Tumiso Mashakola and Police XI’s Lesego Bosekeng.
It was the second award of the season for Morake, who was also crowned as the best goalkeeper of the Mascom Top 8. As with his teammate Setsile, Morake will in the coming season ply his trade at TS Galaxy.
In the coaches’ awards, it was once again all Galaxy as da Costa won the accolade ahead of Police XI’s Mike Sithole and BDF XI’s Louis Setshwane.
In the only award that eluded Galaxy, relegated Mochudi Centre Chiefs youngster Bakang Leshona was crowned the Young Player of the Season ahead of Extension Gunners’ Baokeditswe Talane and Rollers’ Kago Monyake.
Meanwhile, Keabetswe Dintwe was crowned the Referee of the Season while Ookeditse Keitseope walked away with the Assistant Referee of the Season award.
