Thamaga Police and residents are searching for a taxi driver after his car was swept away by a strong current along Metsimotlhabe River on Sunday evening following heavy rains.
The car he was last seen driving, a Honda Fit taxi, was found washed up by the river bank in Thamaga on Monday November 2, 2020.
Speaking to The Telegraph on Monday, Assistant Superintendent Knight Molosiwa of Thamaga Police Station said scuba divers were inside the river searching for the missing man’s body.
He said eyewitness reports suggested the driver was alone at the time of the incident which they suspect occurred around 7 pm on Sunday November 1st.
“Relatives have confirmed to us that he has not returned home since yesterday and that his mobile phone was off,” Molosiwa said on Monday.
The taxi owner also confirmed to the Police that indeed the man in question had been in charge of the car that day. The driver had not been found by the time of going to press, more than 24 hours since he was believed to have disappeared.
