The easy price syndrome!

You can’t even begin to comprehend the insanity, the dedication, the unreasonableness, the obsession, the maniacal single mindedness of those that get to the top. We marvel at their greatness, and claim that we want to be like them. But if you were to peek behind the curtain weeks before they go on stage you wouldn’t want to do what they do because you wouldn’t stand the stench of blood mixed with sweat and tears.

Nobody gets to the very top by accident. Well maybe you can but then if you got there without hard work, self discipline, character and without having paid the price in full then your stay there will be short lived. Talent or chance may get you to the top, the Gods may smile at you and you may end up at the top but if you are going to stay there then you need to have big lungs and a whole lot of resilience because up there in high altitude the air is thin.

Those that climb mountains know that if you get to the top too quickly you get altitude sickness and you have to descend very quickly for about 500m otherwise you may die. People have paid dearly for climbing mountains too quickly because they then get to the top before their bodies have
acclimatized.

However, if you take every grueling step, if you take your time getting to the top, if you put in the sweat the dedication and the 110% effort every day at practice, if you don’t cut corners and suffer from the curse of impatience then your body gets used to all the hard work and demands placed on it. So when you get to the top you will still be able to breathe even though the air is thin. If you can do that then you will be one of the very few people who are able to breathe the air up there, because not everyone can breathe air so thin it hurts your lungs.

I don’t care what your game is or who your hero is, if only can understand one thing only and one thing only: “Champions aren┬┤t made in the gym. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision.”

Its not me its Mohamed Ali who said that. So what your insane desire, what is your obsession, what is or could be one thing or idea in your life that all weaknesses you have will subordinate themselves to? I don’t have to know the answer to that one, but you have to and by the way you don’t have to answer the question either.

Getting from where you are to where you want to be is not going to be easy unless you want to do easy things, but then even easy things have their price. The price that everyone wants to pay, people don’t want to exert themselves these days. They simply want to get the promotion and the pay raise without much effort. Do you suffer from the easy prices syndrome, the something for nothing mentality that holds most people back?

How hard are you prepared to work to get to the top of your field or to get the things that you want to get. Most often it sounds like it’s a good idea to publicly declare our goals to people we meet or people we live with. The most important thing is not so much about talking about our goals but rather taking action on them. Taking action, but isn’t it easier to postpone taking action? Isn’t it always easy to say that I will do it tomorrow when I have more time in my hands? But doesn’t it make you wonder where times comes from, if you don’t have time today where will tomorrow’s time come from? Does time avail itself or do you avail it by freeing up your schedule?

Is it even possible to have time if you don’t make time for creating time?

I like the way people always put it, that I don’t have time as if time is something you own. You cannot own time you can only work with it. You cannot stop it, you cannot hold it still nor can you turn it back. If you don’t use it now the opportunity to use it will be lost forever. But of course you know these things about time and about working hard, so why should we bother talking about them. Argument for that is simply that knowing is not the same thing as doing because most often we know but don’t do. But if you did all the things you knew your life will be totally different. Therefore to get to where you want to go start taking action now because tomorrow never comes.
