Management of Kgalagadi Breweries [KBL] this week announced that at the recently held SABMiller [Africa] Marketing, Sales and Distribution Conference in Cape Town, the Botswana team, as represented by Kgalagadi Breweries and Botswana Breweries [BBL] sales departments, were awarded accolades for outstanding sales and customer service achievements.
The SABMiller Africa Sales and Distribution Awards are intensely competed for across the continent and are recognised as significant milestones and critical performance indicators for best practice in Sales and Distribution capability.
Annually, SABMiller Africa recognizes and rewards District Sales Teams that deliver extraordinary performance within the respective markets in which they operate.
For this year’s submissions, SABMiller Africa introduced an additional category to include an award for the complementary beverages portfolio. This category includes opaque beer, water, non coke soft drinks, as well as wines and spirits.
In what pundits describe as akin to industry leadership, KBL and BBL sales teams ambled in to assert their rightful place as leaders in Africa; inherently a solid endorsement to the brewers’ competitive expertise and positioning in their markets for both the clear and opaque beer categories.
Notably, best practice and achievement in this arena is not deduced by a simple measure of volume performance, but is expressed in terms of a composite of the value derived from various activities of the sales teams over the past year, as delivered to Batswana retailers and passed on to consumers in their value chains.
Whilst all SABMiller affiliated brewers and distillers made their submissions, it was Botswana, Tanzania, Uganda, Lesotho and Mozambique who ultimately qualified to compete at the finals for the coveted continental awards.
The KBL District South Team led by Kopano Pontsho was awarded the coveted “Managing Directors Gold Award “for the best Sales Team in the clear beer category.
BBL scooped the Gold Sales Team Award in the complementary beverages portfolio led by Tsaone Semausu and the Lobatse sales team. This is a notable performance, given that volume performance has, by comparison, been relatively muted in Botswana over the past few years as a result of the prevailing local conditions.
Speaking at the conference after receiving the award on the 23rd May 2012 in Cape Town, the exultant KBL and BBL Managing Director Hloni Matsela said,
“We would not have won these Awards if it was not for the support of all the stakeholders involved, our well seasoned and dedicated sales teams, the support from departments across the value chain and most particularly, our valued customers and consumers.”
The ‘Managing Director’s Gold Awards’ were presented by SABMiller Africa Managing Director, Mark Bowman, to the three high performance sales teams in SABMiller Africa, signifying a sincere and undoubted recognition to both Kopano and Tsaone and their sales teams for their consistent efforts and commitment in their resolve to transform KBL and BBL into world class organizations.
“We are exceptionally proud to have received these coveted awards as they recognize and salute those who, through dedication and application, attain extraordinary achievement in the field of Sales. At KBL and BBL we truly work and win in teams,” said Matsela.
