Tutume village will become vibrant during the festive season as hordes of people are expected to attend the annual Goledzwa football tournament in the village which will be held from the 25 of December this year to the 1st of January next year.
Speaking to the Sunday Standard, the Publicity Secretary of the tournament, Christopher Nyanga said six teams, Gulana, Happy Hearts, Bashi Rollers, Mangaungau, Masokga and Madumilano will battle it out for the festive season cup.
“This tournament will have five match days and it will be played on a round robin format with each team playing the other only once,” he said.
He revealed that the tournament, which began in 2009, has grown beyond just a festive season tournament, becoming an integral part of Tutume village.
Nyanga said that the tournament does not only nurture future football stars in the country, but also brings the much needed vibe, excitement, entertainment and solidarity in the village.
“As a further demonstration of the tournament’s growth and consciousness of its corporate social responsibility obligations, the six teams that will participate intend to contribute to the building of a shelter at Tutume main kgotla,” he added.
Nyanga said that the teams will also visit Tutume Primary Hospital to give food hampers to patients at the hospital on the 28th of December. He added that the village authorities, such as Dikgosi, Member of Parliament and the Village Development Committee have been invited to attend the short ceremony to mark the tournament’s corporate social responsibility pursuits.
“The village authorities have been invited to attend this ceremony on the 28th of December where they will demonstrate the tournament’s corporate social responsibility’s pursuits,” he said.
He also said that on the 1st of January 2013, there will be another short prize giving ceremony for the winners of the tournament.
Nyanga added that the prizes will differ depending on how each team would have performed.
“I need to assure the residents of Tutume village and those who are interested in attending these tournaments, that as the organizing committee we have this year spiced our tournament, to make it a little different and more relevant to the needs of the spectators and Tutume village as a whole,” he said.
