Following a series of goofs that have become typical of the Murphy’s Law that govern Botswana Premier League, the planned deadlock breaker between contenders for the 2015/2016 beMobile league championship; Township Rollers and Mochudi Center Chiefs seems an ominous portent of the chaos theory.
The playoff match follows the Botswana Football Association National Disciplinary Committee (BFA NDC) Monday ruling that the two should meet again to determine the 2015/2016 league champions. Chiefs are log leaders with 65 points and Rollers trails closely behind with 63 points. Chiefs however could not be crowned log winners because of the soft points rule.
While Township Rollers General manager, Sydney Magagane said “we are going to play the re-match because a decision has been made and we have to abide by the decision”, Chiefs spokesperson, Clifford Mogomotsi said “we cannot play in the re-match. The players only reported yesterday (Thursday)”
Botswana Football Association, Marco Maje who is seconded to the premier league office from BFA said “According to BFA and the premier league office the playoff between Rollers and Chiefs is on the cards and will be played on Wednesday.” Maje further confirmed the teams have received correspondence from BFA notifying them of the rematch. He said the teams have been complaining of short notice but they have since recalled their players from the national team and they had the whole week training.
He further told Sunday Standard Sports that apart from the complaint about the short notice the teams have not raised any objections hence the BFA has decided the game will be played as planned.
Maje explained that the league deciding match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday to allow the players from the two teams who are on the Zebras call up to rejoin with the rest of the national team immediately after match early Thursday morning.
The playoff match comes after the BFA NDC ruled in favor of Chiefs in their protest against that Roller had fielded a defaulter, Ofentse Nato in their previous encounter.
On the allegations that the premier league awards has been postponed, Maje said what they know is premier league board is meeting on Saturday (yesterday) to discuss pending issues and the awards are likely to be discussed. The league awards are planned for the 25thJune.
Contacted for comment on the awards and the playoff match, BTC Sponsorship and Consumer Public Relations, Leonard Seoke “all is in the hands of premier league or BFA as football administrators.”
