The maize milling division of Bokomo Botswana, through their White Star maize meal brand, has contributed to the fight against Breast Cancer with a cheque worth P40 000 to Journey of Hope (JOH).
Bokomo pledged 50 thebe for every 12.5kg maize meal sold for the period 24 to the 31 August 2012 to the Breast Cancer awareness initiative.
“A healthy mind and a healthy body play a significant role in leading a good long life. While Bokomo products can help maintain a healthy body, awareness about Breast Cancer is a great way to help manage one of the more common cancers to affect women in Botswana,” said Victor Khan, National Sales and Marketing Manager of Bokomo Botswana.
Bokomo Botswana also supported the annual Breast Cancer awareness Journey of Hope riders with P10 000 to fund their riding costs across Botswana. During the tour, the riders conducted talks in the communities they passed through, educating the public on dangers of Breast Cancer as well as conducting self-examination workshops to help prevent Breast Cancer.
“It is incredible how simply going grocery shopping can give much needed support to an important initiative like Breast Cancer awareness,” said a statement from JOH. “In the same way, regular breast self-examination is one of the simplest methods of detecting Breast Cancer.”
The Journey of Hope took the opportunity during the handover ceremony to demonstrate breast self-examination to Bokomo Botswana employees. “Bokomo Botswana is proud to be associated with the good work carried out by the Journey of Hope riders,” said Khan, in a message of hope and support during the cheque handover ceremony. “We also thank the Journey of Hope riders for raising the Breast Cancer awareness of our Bokomo family.”
