Hip hop rapper par excellence, Zeus, is set to release yet another album, which is widely expected to make a thudding impact on the local and regional hip hop scene.
After upping the tempo in the hip hop scene, with trendsetting albums that included some of his hit songs, like Gijima and Imagination, the hip hop maestro, who recently won the Channel O Music Video Awards Award, is set to release a follow up album to the vintage Freshly Baked.
As a sign of things to come, singles of the 16-track album, The Flipside, has been on heavy rotation in Botswana, South Africa and Namibia.
According to the rapper, despite the entire celebrity buzz that he has been receiving over the years, especially after the release of Imagination and Champagne music, together with the dominance of his Gijima music video, the real victory is the fact that people can now get a chance to buy an album of his.
“After all these years and all the ups and downs it is finally a relief for me, and my fans, to finally have a product on mainstream shelves; which is something that I’ve never had before,” said Zeus.
Produced by the likes of Octave Couplet, Ross, PH, AB Crazy and Mr. Bannerman, the album is a coming of age project that sees Zeus at his best, tackling real life experiences from love and relationships to black consciousness and Africa’s place in today’s world. In line with the times, and with an effort to be an all inclusive collection of music, the album has something for lovers of music, and can be defined as hip hop for connoisseurs and non-connoisseurs.
“That’s why I called it The Flipside. It’s like a flip, a switch in mindset; like a change in bearings. If people had gotten a chance to listen to my previous albums they would see that this album represents a lot of growth from those days,” he said.
Distributed through Soul Candy Records, the album has already been released in Mafikeng, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth, where the rapper’s music is apparently in huge demand. The album is scheduled for release on December 18th in Gaborone.
It will be available in Musica Stores, Kgalagadi Music World, Ko Setlhareng.com and Mafia Soul. The project is a partnership between DIY/Rizn Entertainment, Octave couplet and Big Dawg Productions.
