Barclays Bank of Botswana said applications for the 2011 Barclays F.G. Mogae Scholarship Fund were open as of 26th May 2011. 
A statement from the bank stated that since its inception in 2008, 15 young Batswana have benefitted from the fund and the number will increase to 20 after the 2011 selection process has been finalised in July.
The main aim of the scholarship fund is  the development of young people in Botswana. Barclays has committed P 1.5 million for individuals who wish to pursue a Masters degree in areas of study that will contribute to the sustainable development of Botswana.
Education is key to the development of any nation and Barclays Bank of Botswana is committed to contributing to the achievements of the national vision pillar of Batswana being an educated nation by 2016.
“The F.G Mogae Scholarship targets intelligent and deserving┬á Batswana and we are proud as Barclays to be associated┬á with former President Festus Mogae, whose vision and intellect contributed immensely to the development of this county,” said Wilfred Mpai, Acting Managing Director.
The criteria used to select candidates include excellent academic record, financial need, involvement in community as well as positive personal attributes.
The selection committee will include select members of the Barclays Bank of Botswana management committee,  Vice- Chancellor of the University of Botswana as well as former President, Festus Mogae.
The application for the scholarship can be collected from any Barclays branch across the country.  The deadline for application is the 13th of June 2011.
