We need to appreciate that growth and prosperity do not occur by chance. At the time of our independence in 1966, a lot of effort went into building fit-for-purpose institutions and laws to promote economic growth, wealth creation, and job opportunities. Those institutions enabled the country to grow at a very rapid rate, as we all know. After sixty years, those institutions have run their course and need to be rewired.
It is now imperative to reconsider our economic foundations by modernising them to prepare the country for the future. Sadly, not much is in sight, at least for now, in terms of building new or rejigging existing institutions.
