In a historic move, Absa Bank Botswana Limited (Absa) has marked a significant milestone by successfully listing the first-ever Sustainable Bond on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE). The groundbreaking bond, valued at P47.4 Million, falls under Absa’s P2.0 Billion Medium Term Note Programme.
Thapelo Tsheole, the CEO of BSE, underscored the magnitude of this achievement, extending congratulations to Absa and its stakeholders. The listing of the Sustainable Bond is the culmination of strategic initiatives aimed at fostering a conducive market for such instruments. Tsheole highlighted the introduction of a new Sustainable Bonds Segment, dedicated to Green, Social, Sustainability, and Sustainability-Linked Bonds, intended to raise funds for sustainable development.
