Administrators frustrate sport codes

Botswana sport has had its fair share of controversies related to the safety of athletes, more especially women and the girl child. Just recently, a renowned sports administrator was hauled before the magistrate courts on allegations of sexually harassing an athlete. The issue was unearthed during a safeguarding workshop.

The athlete’s experience is not an isolated case. “We have seen and heard of cases of abuse, harassment, sexual abuse, exclusion, mismanagement of sport and funds, favouritism,” Sports Management Agency co-founder and safeguarding officers trainer Game Mothibi says.
