African diamonds appoints Gabonowe as its CEO for Botswana operation

African Diamonds plc, the AIM and Botswana listed Diamond Company, has announced the appointment of Ribson Gabonowe as the Chief Executive Officer of Kukama Mining & Exploration Company Pty Ltd. The company is a wholly owned Botswana subsidiary of African Diamonds.
His brief is to grow AFD assets in Botswana, both within the De Beers / African Diamonds Joint Venture and with other mining and exploration interests.
Gabonowe brings many years of experience as Director of Mines in Botswana, overseeing the administration of mineral licenses as well as involvement in negotiations of major mining agreements for diamonds, copper/nickel, soda ash and coal.

He represented the Government of Botswana in various mine executive committees and currently serves as a director in coal, copper/nickel and diamond businesses. Gabonowe retired from his recent position of Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government before joining African Diamonds.

John Teeling, Chairman, said: “It is with much pleasure that I welcome Ribson to African Diamonds. Botswana is the focus of our operations. The Orapa area of Botswana is the best diamond address in the world. African Diamonds, in joint venture with De Beers and on our own account, has excellent prospects in the area. Ribson will be closely involved in the development of our AK6 diamond mine and will expand and deepen our Botswana mining portfolio. His first assignment will be to work on the AK6 mining licence application due to be submitted to the Botswana Government by the end of September 2007.”
