Standfirst: Africa’s leading business school, the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, will be showcasing its highly accredited business education programmes for the first time ever in Gaborone this September.
Business leaders and entrepreneurs in Botswana will have the opportunity to see what the leading business school on the continent is offering at an open day in Gaborone on Thursday, 13 September.
The UCT Graduate School of Business (GSB) will be showcasing its leading business programmes at the Gaborone Sun, Chuma Drive, including the Master’s in Business Administration (MBA).
The GSB MBA is the only programme in Africa ranked in the Financial Times’ Top 100 Global MBAs, and has received acclaim for the international scope of its curriculum, which nonetheless retains a distinctive orientation to the business context of Africa. In the latest QS Global 200 Business Schools Report, which rates schools from around the world based on MBA employers’ and recruiters’ views, UCT GSB was ranked top.
According to the school’s director, Professor Walter Baets, the GSB’s mission is to differentiate itself as an institution with strong and distinctive capabilities in emerging market business education and applied research.
“Our aim is to ensure that all our programmes are relevant in the context of new global business, new leadership development, and in emerging economy business,” says Baets.
“Africa is able to develop its own models of business school that will be more relevant to the local context without sacrificing internationalism. We don’t need Harvard in Africa we need something better suited to the complex challenges on the continent.”
GSB marketing manager, Cherry Burchell, says that the ratings show that the GSB is the best business school in the country and on the continent, especially when coupled with the school’s NRF ratings and EQUIS accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development.
The other programmes to be presented are the modular Executive MBA, the modular Mcom Development Finance, the modular Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration, and the modular Associate in Management (AIM).
Of particular interest to emerging leaders without previous tertiary education who want to further their careers, the AIM programme allows people with only working experience to access a world-class business school education. Graduates earn a certificate from the Faculty of Commerce at UCT, which allows admission to other tertiary programmes.
The open day will take place between 18h00 and 21h00 at the Gaborone Sun, Chuma Drive, in Gaborone. For more information please contact the UCT GSB Admissions Office on +27 (0)21 406 1338 or send an email to [email protected].
