Almost 50% of Batswana faced “moderate or severe food insecurity” in 2023

With only six years to go before 2030 — the endpoint of the sustainable development goals (SDGs), Botswana’s hope of achieving SDG 2 of ending hunger and malnutrition and ensuring nutritious food for all by 2030 is fading out.

A recent update of Botswana’s national food insecurity prevalence during the year 2022/23 shows that 49.4 per cent of the population experienced moderate or severe food insecurity (SDG indicator 2.1.2)
