Local initiative ‘The Local Slice BW’ will on November 24th launch its market with a focus on local products and services. The market, which aims to bring local businesses, entrepreneurs, creative and manufacturers to the forefront and under one roof aspires to facilitate a vibrant entrepreneurial culture in Botswana.
“We have been running digital campaigns on Facebook and Twitter to encourage Batswana to buy and support local products and services, so we found it fit to create a platform where Batswana can interact, engage and buy those same products that they have been seeing. It will be a colorful market that brings a variety of offerings together, with a flavor of our culture as Batswana,” says event facilitator Thato Angela Chuma.
The initiative, which has been running for eight months, uses the hashtags #buylocalbw, #supportlocalbw and #sharelocalbw to encourage Batswana to prioritize local offerings in their day to day shopping decisions.
“We are calling for all local manufacturers, entrepreneurs and creative to make sure that they come and exhibit what they have to offer. The market is free entry to the public and stalls are affordable for the average entrepreneur as we want to improve access. We will also have live entertainment by local acts and a kiddie’s zone to bring the market to life.”
“We hope that the market will reach other regions outside Gaborone going forward. It’s really about mobilizing an active buying culture to sustain our own businesses.”
The market is in partnership with The Gazette, Prima Clothing and VYB Digital. For more on the market, visit ‘The Local Slice BW’ on Facebook or email [email protected]
