In the Sunday Standard edition of July 17th under the story titled ‘THE BDP HAS BECOME A FASCIST MOVEMENT’ I had written that “This perhaps explains why the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) Parliamentarian Honorable Guma Moyo has suddenly developed two personalities with speculation rife that he intends to rejoin the money machine (the BDP). He is torn between standing by his principles that saw him become a co-founder of the BMD and rejoining the BDP to enjoy unlimited opportunities to dip his hands into the national treasury.”
The above statement should not be misinterpreted to imply that Honourable Moyo is a corrupt individual who seeks to collude with the BDP to bolster his businesses. In the contrary, the statement was intended to use MP Moyo as a possible victim of BDP’s dirty tricks that seek to frustrate and sabotage his businesses to a point where he would be compelled to return to the BDP.
Honourable Moyo has since brought it to my attention that whilst he is a businessman, his businesses do not depend on government’s tenders or its generosity. His businesses were established and flourished well before he became a public figure and, therefore, it cannot be said that he needs political connections to grow as a businessman.
I would like to sincerely apologize for the damage the said statement could have caused to Honourable MP Moyo and his family.
