Principal District Officer Gobe Macha has urged the Francistown visual artists and craftsmen to utilize art exhibitions as a platform through which they can explore opportunities to collaborate with the business community.
Macha was officiating at the launch of an art exhibition at Supa Ngwao museum in Francistown. He said visual arts should not only be regarded as recreational, but should be exploited for business opportunities.
He encouraged craftsmen to take advantage of opportunities presented by government to expose their work.
“By bringing exhibitions to Francistown, we are trying to decentralize the visual arts activities from Gaborone. Exhibitions of this nature also assist government to determine the numbers of artists and craft producers for documentation purposes and research” he said.
“It is expected that there will be artworks and craft items selected from the exhibition to make up the visual arts programme of the President Day Celebration for 2010. Therefore its upon this region to enter the best selection and be represented at the National Art and National Basket and Craft Exhibitions when they will be hosted in the National Gallery in Gaborone in July,” Macha added.
The Regional Art Exhibition launch comes prior to the huge exhibition that will be held in Gaborone National Gallery in July this year during the President Day Celebrations.
