Bangwato give Sekgoma Khama dignified funeral

By and large, Sekgoma Khama who was buried at Pilikwe July 15 was Serowe’s high profile socialite in the years preceding and following the attainment of the country’s independence. He was loved by many people stretching from Serowe down South in Mochudi. He too loved them.  He had befriended a contingent of teachers at Swaneng Hill School and which consisted of Patrick van Ransburg, Sheila Bagnall,Peter Fewster, mike Hawkes, Wopko Jensma, Donald Curtis, Michael Kromberg , John Matome, Lawrence Notha and many more.

The Mochudi contingent included Sandy Grant, Ian Smith (unrelated to the Rhodesian rebel leader} Ishmael Matlhaku and his son John Matlhaku, John Cox and Lady Mitchison.  Kgosi Linchwe II and Mohumagadi MmaSeingwaeng often joined them. The group held parties in Serowe, Mochudi and Gaborone during the weekends or holidays. In Serowe, Sekgoma Khama whom they called Sekky in admiration would be the host. In Gaborone it would be Sandy Grant. Occasionally they would install themselves in a hotel and hold a very big party. More often than not, parties would go on until the early hours of the following day.
