Batswana women break boardroom glass ceiling

Batswana women are breaking the glass ceiling in boardrooms faster than their counterparts in developing countries – an international survey revealed last week.

The latest results from the Grant Thornton International Business Report survey ranks Botswana sixth in the global league when it comes to the percentage of women in the senior management of businesses.

The latest findings from the Grant Thornton report were released last week to coincide with the International Women?s Day.

The top nine, in order, are the Philippines (50 percent), Brazil (42 percent), Thailand (39), Hong Kong (35), Russia (34), mainland China (32), Botswana (31 percent), South Africa and Taiwan (both 29 percent).

Botswana has surpassed countries like New Zealand, which stands at 24 percent, United States of America 23 percent and Australia 22 percent. The UK moved up marginally, from 18 to 19 percent, within the three-year period, while Japan again anchored the bottom of the table, also moving up slightly – from 8 to 9 percent.
