The commitment to spreading the game across the nation continues as Molepolole witnessed a surge upwards in the number of prospective cricketers.
In August, the Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) managed to include 11 Government Primary Schools encompassing 1120 students.
The Primary Schools and their respective areas are: Phuthadikobo, Boatlaname, Magalatladi, Bokaa, Suping, Kutlwano, Bonewamang, Bakwena, Boribamo, Sebele and Kealeboga, all primary schools in Molepolole.
This now takes the total tally of Government Primary Schools involved in the BCA Development Programme to 142, with a total number of 8 079 children.
The BCA acknowledges the role of the media and support from locals for expanding the game.
“I wish to thank each of you in the Media for your continued support and efforts in your helping us with our mission of “Bring cricket to the Nation,” said the Public Relations Officer, Sumod Damodar.
This comes after the Under 19 girls performed exceptionally well at the recent Four Nations Tournament against Swaziland, Namibia and Zimbabwe at which they finished second with their captain, Shameelah Mosweu, becoming the first Motswana woman to score a century.
The Association has continued to receive praise for its efforts in taking “the gentleman’s game” to more rural areas and making it a nationwide phenomenon.
