Botswana Chess Federation(BCF) will host the second annual 2018 chess tournament for elderly players aged 35 years and above on the 10th of November at Botho University in Francistown.
The one day tournament will be sponsored to the tune of P30 000 which will cover the event’s logistics. Former chess legends will have a chance to play and compete against former team members to remind themselves of their competitive chess days.
Tournament organiser Roger Tiroyamodimo promised that there will be a lot of bragging rights associated with winning the masters tourney.
“Winners will choose a primary school of their choice where they will in conjunction with BCF donate chess equipment and nurture talent at grassroots level. The donation is a way of planting back into the community. It is always a marvel to see the community happy to see former chess legends,” says Tiroyamodimo.
He concluded that there is much anticipation and most people are anxious to see if Candidate Master (CM) Ndawana Mosenya will defend his title. It is said that the games will be played as one section from 0800 hrs in the morning until 1800 hrs in the evening. Events that will follow afterwards will be a treat for chess masters by the BCF.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with P3 500 cash. The tournament will be played as one section and only the best lady will receive a prize of P1 500 outside the main bracket of prizes. Position 2 will receive P2 500, Position 3 ÔÇô P2 000, Position 4 ÔÇô P1 500, Position 5 ÔÇô P1 200, Position 6 ÔÇô P8 00 and Position 7 ÔÇô P600.
