A four-year investigation by the Competition and Consumer Authority (CCA) into allegations of anti-competitive behavior has resulted in charges being filed against some of Botswana’s largest insurance companies.
The Sunday Standard has learned that Bryte Insurance Company Botswana, Hollard Insurance Botswana, Old Mutual Financial Services Botswana, and Botswana Insurance Company have been named in the case titled CCA v Botswana Insurance Company Ltd and 3 others: Case No: CCT/A/01/20231. The matter arose after when, on March 12, 2019, a group of local panel beaters lodged a complaint with the CCA in which it alleged that the insurers were engaged in anti competitive conduct to price-gouge their customers.
