BNF endorses Nagafela for Letlhakeng by-election

The Botswana National Front (BNF) has endorsed Filbert Nagafela as the parliamentary candidate for the Letlhakeng West constituency by-election.

Nagafela will represent the party after emerging as the only applicant wishing to run for the party’s primaries.

This has been confirmed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Moeti Mohwasa.

“The deadline for submission of applications was last Friday and so far only one candidate has applied,” said Mohwasa, referring to former area Member of Parliament, Nagafela.

“We have not yet decided over the launch but it will take place soon,” he added.

The BNF seeks to reclaim the Letlhakeng West constituency which the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) only snatched during the 2009 general elections with a margin of 34 votes.

So far the BDP has not opened submission for the holding of primaries but a number of names are being touted as possible contestants.

Those tipped to contest for the constituency under the party’s ticket include Letlhakeng sub-district council chairperson, Tshoganetso Leuwe, alongside former area MP Boometswe Mokgothu.

On the other hand, the opposition Botswana Congress Party (BCP) which is unpopular in the area has also expressed interest to contest the upcoming by-election.
