Botswana DanceSport Association (BODANSA) is hoping to send two of its top couples to the Copenhagen Open Championship in Denmark which is expected to start on the 20th of this month.
BODANSA Public Relations Officer, Keabetswe Ramocha, told the Sunday Standard that they will, on the 17th of February, send two of their top couples to the championship for the first time in their history.
“We are going to send Tiny Serole and Mogomotsi Bolaane along with Kabelo Giddie and Hope Bayani to go and represent the country at the Open championship,” he said.
He emphasised that their major challenge right now is finances. He also added that the open championship is a big competition that will expose the Botswana couple to high international standards.
“Our major obstacle is finances but we are hopeful to have raised it as this will also come a long way in exposing our dancers to the international arena,” he said.
In addition, Ramocha explained that Botswana’s participation will also help develop DanceSport in the country adding that it does not only benefit the couples sent but the whole association.
Ramocha further explained that the Copenhagen Open, organised by Peter Dan Ringgaard, is an international championship featuring top couples from each country all over the world and that no African country has ever reached the top twelve. The couples will leave the country on the 19th of this month and are expected back four days later.
