Body of second WUC employee retrieved from Gaborone Dam

A rescue team recovered the second of three bodies belonging to Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) employees at around 10 this morning.

The three employees went missing at the dam about nine days ago.

The second body was retrieved from the water a few minutes after the morning prayers that were held at the dam today (Wednesday).

Soon after the discovery of the body, security agents ordered the press to go out of the dam area immediately and wait at the dam’s main entrance.

So keen were the officials to keep the press away that they opted to use a helicopter to transport the body instead of the waiting ambulance they had summoned to the scene.

The first body was retrieved from water at around 11 on the morning of Tuesday.

The Station Commander of Naledi Police Station, Superintendent King Tshebo, said the just retrieved man came from Kachikau Village.

He said the deceased’s was still in WUC uniform and not in bad state.

He added that a post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

“I am not in a position to release the names of the deceased as yet as the next of kin have not been informed,” he said.

Tshebo said the speed boat that was used by the three employees had still not been located but was optimistic the third body would be recovered soon as well.
