Botho college student allegedly sets college property on fire

Goods worth more than P70┬á000 perished┬á in an inferno after a student set fire to her boyfriend’s house in Tlokweng last week.

An alleged jealous lover,┬á Bernedict Mogola, a student at Botho College┬á in Francistown, is alleged to have set fire to her boyfriend’s house and who is an employee of ┬áBotho College campus ┬áin Gaborone.

The inferno  that took place at sub urban area known as ISIS in Masetheng Ward in  Tlokweng gutted five houses in the vicinity of the house that initially caught fire.

 Mogola was arrested and appeared  before Extension II Magistrate Court this week, facing a single count of arson.

According to the State, the┬á 27-year-old Mogola set┬áfire to her boyfriend’s house causing five other houses in the same compound to catch fire as well, resulting in destruction of property valued at P70┬á000.

According to the state the goods that were gutted comprised of household goods such as televisions, clothes, documents and other goods.

The state further stated that the house that Mogola’s boyfriend was staying in belongs to Botho College.

The accused has been granted bail while the plea has been reserved.  

The two love birds are believed to have been engaged in a heated confrontation over their love affairs.
