Botswana dug up more diamonds in the second quarter of 2026 (Q2), but earned considerably less from selling them.
Diamond mining value added almost doubled, rising 94.7 percent from a year earlier and providing much of the lift behind Botswana’s 8.7 percent economic growth. Yet diamond export earnings moved sharply in the opposite direction, highlighting the widening gap between production and value realised.
