Botswana faces a growing test to turn a rising working-age population into economic growth as demographic changes create a potential dividend that will depend on the country’s ability to generate jobs and raise productivity.
The working-age population, people aged 15 to 64, is projected to rise to 67.6 percent of the population by 2038 from 63.3 percent in 2023, according to Statistics Botswana’s Population Projections 2022–2038. The dependency ratio is expected to fall to 0.48 from 0.58 over the same period.
