Botswana’s fate in the World Group Mini-World Cup Tournament is yet to be decided as they have to win their next games in order to qualify for the last stage of the tournament. This came after losing to Zimbabwe.
The tournament is organised by the Gaborone Cricket Club (GCC), an affiliate of the Botswana Cricket Association (BCA). The 2018 edition of the tournament comprises of eight (8) teams, namely, Botswana, Zimbabwe, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Bangladesh & Rest of the World (World XI).
Group A comprises of Pakistan which is on top of the log, India, South Africa and World XI respectively. Group B on the other hand comprises of Zimbabwe which is leading the group, Botswana, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh following each other respectively in that order.
Team Botswana only a game away from the semi finals, has lost only one game, with a net run of 1.3250. BCA’s Secretary ÔÇô Fixtures & Publicity Sumod Damodar says the team continues to do well in the tournament.
“The team is doing well, now all they need to do to qualify is win their next game. The tournament is in its second round, there will be another round before deciding games,” he says adding that “they just need to work harder.”
Batters to look out for include Reginald N , Trymore T and Wycliff. Bowlers which have caught the eyes of the umpires include James M , Mmoloki M and Karabo Motlhanka.
“Entry to all games are free and all cricket lovers, young and old, past and present are invited to enjoy some entertaining matches,” he added.
