Botswana urged to swap Debswana stake for more De Beers shares

Amid the potential sale of De Beers by its parent company, Anglo American, former De Beers Botswana CEO Sheila Khama is calling for strategic foresight from Botswana. Khama suggests that the government should consider reducing its stake in Debswana Diamond Company in exchange for a larger share in De Beers Group. She proposes a share swap, arguing that dividends from De Beers could help offset the revenue decline expected as Debswana’s diamond reserves diminish.
