A new scientific report by conservation organisation Elephants Without Borders (EWB) has criticised Botswana’s official justification for elephant hunting warning that the country’s current hunting framework is based on misleading claims, flawed modelling and population estimates that do not reflect ecological reality.
The report takes direct aim at the Department of Wildlife and National Parks’ (DWNP) 2021 Non-Detriment Finding (NDF) for elephant hunting arguing that it contains “questionable, misleading, and in some cases false statements” that underestimate the long-term damage hunting could cause to Botswana’s elephant populations especially older bulls.
