Businesses reliant on the Botswana Railway-owned Gaborone Container Terminal (GABCON) are reeling from disruptions after a fire incident on December 13, 2024, damaged key equipment at the facility. The blaze engulfed one of the terminal’s three reach stackers, critical machinery used for handling shipping containers, bringing operations to a standstill for affected stakeholders.
GABCON management has since confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway to establish the cause and extent of the damage.
