Chinese organized crime rings steal millions from Batswana- FIA

The Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) has uncovered a multi-million Pula pig butchering scam in Botswana orchestrated by Chinese transnational organized crime rings.

A pig butchering scheme is a long-term investment fraud where scammers gradually convince victims to invest increasing amounts of money. The term “pig butchering” comes from the Chinese phrase shu zhu pan, which translates to “killing pig plate”. The idea is that the scammers “fatten up” their victims before “slaughtering” them for their money.
