Botswana Police Service has warned the public to be on the lookout for armed and dangerous suspects who fatally shot down a police officer while in the line of duty in Kanye village recently.
The police are also pleading with members of the public to assist them with information that will lead to the arrest of two dangerous suspects who are linked to a robbery in which a micro lender was robbed of about P87 000 by seven well armed men.
This comes after the alleged two suspects escaped unharmed during a police chase that led to a shootout between the police and the suspects. The incident left one suspect dead on the spot, another injured while five escaped and three were later arrested in various places.
Reports from Kanye village indicate that police have dispatched undercover agents throughout the country to look for two suspected criminals believed to be Zimbabwean nationals.
Police intend to pledge about P50 000 as a reward to any informer who might have an idea as to where the two dangerous men might be hiding.  It is understood that the suspects might have illegally crossed into South Africa either using Ramotswa or Ramatlabama borders.
The police officer who witnessed his colleague being shot down by the criminals has been granted leave days as he is said to be traumatized by the incident.
Police spokesperson Dipheko Motube this week pleaded with the public to assist them with information that could lead to the whereabouts of two dangerous criminals linked to the death of a police officer who died a few days after hospitalization due to bullet injuries.
He said though they have not established their identity they strongly believe that the suspected criminals are Zimbabwean nationals.
Motube assured the nation that the police will not sleep until the suspects are brought to book.
He said the suspects are also a real threat to public safety due because they are armed.
He however indicated that one of the suspects who also sustained injuries during the shootout was discharged from hospital last Friday and will now be charged with armed robbery and murder together with other three accomplices.
They are expected to appear before the Kanye magistrate sometime next week.
