Kweneng District Council vehicles in Gabane and Mogoditshane pass private filling stations on the way and travel up to 100 kilometers to and from Molepolole to fuel.
In some instances, they make the long trip to Molepolole when they could be fueling at the Gaborone Central Transport Organization petrol pump which is less than 15 kilometers away ÔÇô it emerged in Parliament this week.
The Minister of Local Government told parliament that he has been made aware that council vehicles in Gabane and Mogoditshane travel to Molepolole for fuel “despite the proximity to CTO in Gaborone.”
“This is a problem that I believe is not beyond the powers of the Kweneng District to resolve. They could, for instance arrange with a private garage in Mogoditshane to fuel council vehicles; and be paid at arranged intervals.”
The minister told parliament that she had taken the issue up with the Kweneng district council. She was answering questions from Kweneng East South MP, Raletobana.
