Countdown to Waar Was Jy festival has begun

The countdown towards what will probably be the biggest festival – Waar Was Jy festival ÔÇô has well and truly begun. Co founder and organiser of the festival, Kefilwe Kgosikhumo explained to Arts and Society that this is the first of many festivals that they intend to bring to Botswana. Although this year they are going Kwaito, they intend to venture into other genres so as to break beyond limits.

Waar Was Jy is an Afrikaans statement which means ‘where were you’. “We were generally targeting people who enjoy the veteran artists we are bringing but it is open for everyone who is interested, “ Kgosikhumo further explained. The lineup includes South African Kwaito legends Aurthur, Thebe, the group Trompies, Ishmael and locally the stages will be set alight by Mapetla, T.H.A.B.O, Dj Sly, Dj Obza, to mention but a few. Overall, it promises to be a great night full of fun.

Regarding the preparations, Kgosikhumo stated that their target is 5000 people. He further stated that, “All the artists have been paid and everything is running smoothly, but we are very busy prepping because it is our intention to have everything set up at least three days before the event.” Regarding ticket sales, Kgosikhumo explained that the tickets are selling at a steady rate but they are not worried, seeing as they know that there will be a rush on the day of the event to get tickets, something he explained as the ‘Last minute syndrome.’

In the future, Waar Was Jy promises to bring a lot of diversity in future by incorporating different genres like soul, jazz and r‘n’b.
