DCEC fires investigator

Maun based Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime officer Abel Mudongo has been dismissed.

His dismissal from work has been confirmed by DCEC Public Relations Officer Lentswe Motshoganetsi
“Yes I can confirm that Mudongo has been dismissed from work but I am not yet in position to say more on the issue today as of now”, he said.

Mudongo had earlier been on suspension on charges authorities have refused to reveal.

Mudongo’s name featured prominently in a corruption case against Maun lawyer Charles Tlaagae and convict Nicky Masheko. The two were accused of having corruptly obtained money from a South African farmer.

During the trial , Masheko made claims against Mudongo which in the end led to Maun Magistrate Mompati Taolo ordering that DCEC Director Rose Seretse appear before his Court to explain amongst other things If DCEC is pursuing criminal investigations against Mudongo.

During the trial Mudongo had been accused of receiving money from a state witness.

The court also wanted the DCEC to explain how much money was involved.
