Eighteen-year-old walks out of court a free man

An 18-year-old man, facing a possible charge of attempted homicide, rape and criminal trespass was released by the Kanye Magistrate court after his charges were withdrawn.

The accused, Tebogo Ntwayagae, walked free after the complainants withdrew statements tendered before the court.

He had been charged for attempting to rape a 49-year-old woman on October 9, 2012.

Allegations were also that he entered the home of Kereng Kwenaefe, wielding a knife and uttering words to the effect that, “I want to eat human flesh.”

On the third count, he is alleged to have threatened to kill his father by pointing a shot gun at him in March 2012.

The court heard that the complainant’s intention was to withdraw the charge of attempted rape and criminal trespass as the accused and his father had approached them for reconciliation and had reached a conclusion to compromise, looking at his age and his health condition.

The father withdrew the charges against his son a week ago because he said he had realized that his son has some problems that need to be resolved at family level.
