Europe, North Africa demand Cooper

Zebras and Lusaka Dynamos midfielder Mothusi Cooper has reportedly drawn interest from Europe and North African clubs.

Following Cooper’s move from Botswana’s Township Rollers in January 2021, the magician midfielder has cemented his place in the starting berth of Zambian giants Lusaka Dynamos.

With interest for the player looming in the Zambian league, news reaching this publication indicates that the player is aiming for offers coming from abroad and bigger leagues.

Since his arrival in Zambia, Cooper’s astonishing performance has reportedly been monitored by clubs in Serbia and North Africa. It is said that with just a few months plying trade in the Zambian elite super league on a two year contract, the Zambian outfit is willing to release the player depending on the offer put on the table.

Given a chance after starting on the bench in his first few matches, Cooper displayed man of the match performances in league encounters and was influential when his side lifted the ABSA cup against Zesco United. While his side was crowned champions, Cooper lifted the man of the match trophy after excelling in the match.

Regarded as one of the versatile midfielders in the country, the 23-year-old Cooper started his career in his home town of Tsabong playing for Tsabong Tigers FC.

His upward trajectory witnessed Extension Gunners grabbing his signature before being snatched by giants Township Rollers and earning strides in the junior national teams for the under 20 and 23 teams leading to a senior national team call up.

Speaking to his manager, Bakang Moipone said despite Cooper’s contract running until December 2022 there have been a lot of inquiries for his services.

“As we speak there is interest from two Zambian giants Zanaco and Zesco. There are some offers from Egyptian and Serbian clubs and some want to buy him out of contract,’’ said Moipone.

He said that Cooper is highly rated in Zambia that even the Zambia national team gaffer Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic envies his style of play.

“We met Zambian national team coach and he is impressed by Cooper’s performance saying he is a good import that makes a difference in the domestic league,’’ said Moipone.
